PRESS RELEASE
BRIAN ORSER
TO CELEBRATE FINAL TOUR OF HIS
CAREER WITH
2007 HSBC STARS ON ICE PRESENTED
BY SMUCKER’S
Friday, April
20th, 2007
Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre,
Victoria
Doors: 6:30pm Show: 7:30pm
Throughout his spectacular
career, Brian Orser has helped
define figure skating in Canada,
served as an inspiration to
other legends of the sport
including Kurt Browning and
Elvis Stojko, and thrilled
Canadian fans from coast to
coast. This spring, those fans
will be able to celebrate with
him as he tours for the final
time in his career with 2007
HSBC Stars on Ice Presented by
Smucker’s.
Orser will be skating in the
show that he helped build for
the 13th and final time when it
kicks off in Halifax on March
29, 2007 and visits 13 cities
across Canada before wrapping up
in Victoria on April 20. Joining
Orser in the all-new production
titled “Double Exposure: The
Many Lives of Figure Skaters”
will be fellow Canadians Kurt
Browning, Jamie Salé & David
Pelletier, Jeff Buttle, Joannie
Rochette and Marie-France
Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon.
“This will obviously be a very
special tour for me, and a
chance to thank fans across the
country for all of their support
over the years,” said Orser.
“I’ve had many offers and
opportunities to do a final
national tour, but I could never
imagine doing it if it weren’t
Stars on Ice. HSBC Stars on Ice
has been a labour of love for me
since 1991 and I’m thrilled to
be wrapping up my touring career
with this year’s tour.”
Tickets for the 2007 HSBC Stars
on Ice Presented by Smucker’s
Tour go on sale this Saturday,
December 9, making them a
perfect gift for the coming
holiday season.
Count Browning as one of Orser’s
many fans: "All through my
career I've been so lucky to
have someone to look up to,
someone to follow,” said
Browning. “Brian Orser has
taught me so much without once
having sat me down to say
anything. He's just an amazing
role model, a great friend, and
a great skater.”
Produced by world-renowned
skater Scott Hamilton, directed
by three-time Emmy Award winner
Jef Billings, and choreographed
by Olympic Champion and Emmy
Award winner Christopher Dean
and Cindy Stuart, HSBC Stars on
Ice Presented by Smucker’s puts
the athletic, artistic and
creative talents of the world’s
finest figure skaters in the
spotlight.
In the 2006 season of HSBC Stars
on Ice, Hamilton took audiences
backstage to learn everything
there was to know about the
production in The Show…About the
Show. In Double Exposure, he
pulls the curtain back even
further to reveal the lives of
the skaters themselves. Enhanced
by a broad spectrum of popular
music, intricate lighting,
dynamic choreography and
state-of-the-art technology,
audiences will be witness to the
skaters’ secret wishes, personal
goals and ultimate dreams in a
candid and quick-witted format.
"As ‘The world's local bank’,
HSBC is proud to be celebrating
our fifth anniversary as title
sponsor for this wonderful event
that brings many of skating's
most popular legends to Canadian
fans coast to coast," said Blake
Hellam, Head of Marketing, HSBC
Bank Canada. "We look forward to
another spectacular tour this
spring, as we celebrate all that
Brian Orser has meant to
Canadian figure skating over the
years in his final HSBC Stars on
Ice tour."
Also re-joining the star-studded
cast as Presenting Sponsor is
Smucker’s, a long-time title
sponsor of the U.S. Stars on Ice
tour. “A strong believer in
family values, Smucker’s has
always been very proud to be a
supporter of the Stars on Ice
tour in the United States and we
are very excited to be extending
our support to the Canadian tour
for a second year,” said Mark
Smucker, Managing Director,
Smucker Foods of Canada, Co.
“Each year the show reaches
exciting new heights, and offers
skating fans, and their
families, the best in on-ice
family entertainment.”
