He’s baaa-aaack! After capping the first 15 years of his career with the 2004 retrospective “farewell” Lest We Forget, the Antichrist Superstar appeared to be entering the long tail of his career – but Marilyn Manson has never been short on surprises. Eat Me, Drink Me saw everyone’s favourite bogeyman reinventing yet again on the 2007 album, turning his yellow glare on himself and diving once more into the sonic murk of goth metal and corrosive glam. With longtime collaborator Twiggy Ramirez back onboard, 2008’s Rape the World tour was a blockbusting resurrection that left no seat unfilled, and no church lady unruffled.

This year’s The High End of Low album has only built on the momentum, marrying the classic approach of Mechanical Animals with the newest phase in the ever dark but always maturing Manson mythos. An around-the-world jaunt in the wake of the album has been no less impressive. Some twenty years after Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids first established Brian Warner as the Geek Chorus to America’s melodramatic crash ‘n’ burn, Marilyn Manson is still shoving the bamboo under our fingernails, and we’re still asking for more.
